After starting his career at the ORTF as a freelance journalist, he became a sports host and commentator as well as a newspaper presenter, notably alongside Yves Mourousi on TF1 (1975-1977).
In 1984, he joined the newly created Canal+ channel (on November 4, 1984, he hosted the channel’s first show after the opening of the antenna by André Rousselet) and pursued a career as a television host and producer, including the presentation of information, interviews and decryption programs (My Zenith, The Big Family, Sunday TV).
From August 2004 to June 2013, it presents the news and entertainment program Le Grand Journal every night of the week, which renews the path traced by the emblematic show of the encrypted channel, Nowhere else, but with a dominant focus on immediate and political news.
He also holds various management positions within the Canal+ group and has chaired two French football clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain.
In September 2012, while continuing his activities on Canal+, he became editor of the French version of Vanity Fair magazine. To devote himself to this new work, he left the presentation of the Grand Journal in June 2013, which was then taken over by Antoine de Caunes. He announced in his April 2020 monthly editorial that he was leaving the magazine after 78 issues.
In 2019, he directed his first film, Tout ressemblance, about behind the scenes of the television universe, starring Franck Dubosc.
Since 2020, he has hosted a monthly program, Le Grand Comex, on the new B SMART economic news channel created by Stéphane Soumier.
In March 2021, he became president of a football club again by agreeing to take over the management of his heart club, the Berrichonne de Châteauroux, which he had already led between 2004 and 2008, a position he announced he would leave in April 2023.
