Climatologist and glaciologist, member of the French Academy of Sciences and the French Academy of Agriculture, member of the CESE, Nobel Prize winner.
Director of research emeritus at CEA, Jean Jouzel has mainly worked on the reconstruction of past climates from the study of the ice of Antarctica and Greenland. He contributed to the reports of the IPCC (co-winner of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize) of which he was vice-president of the scientific working group from 2002 to 2015. From 2001 to 2008, he directed the Pierre-Simon Institute The place. He has published more than 400 articles, including around 300 in international publications.
His work has been recognized with prizes and decorations. Together with Claude Lorius, he received the CNRS gold medal in 2002. In 2012, he shared with Susan Solomon the Vetlesen Prize, considered the Nobel Prize in the field of Earth Sciences. In 2016, he was elected Foreign Associate Fellow of the United States Academy of Sciences (NAS).
